How often should my vehicle be detailed?

You have the oil changed in your vehicle to keep it running smoothly and continue to be a reliable mode of transportation for you. By keeping it well maintained, you feel better about driving it and if the time comes to sell the vehicle, keeping it so mechanically sound is likely to get you top dollar for it's sale. Having your vehicle detailed may not be as mechanically important as an oil change, but it plays a large role in how your vehicle ages under sunlight and various seasonal environments. Leather ages and cracks, rubber trim fades, paint oxidizes, and problems that are not identified and addressed early on can become permanent, require extensive repair, and in some cases require full replacement. Sunlight beats down and takes a toll on all painted surfaces (clear coated and single stage) and also aggressively speeds up the age of dashboards, exterior trim, and tires. Interior stains from a beverage can further set in to cloth, leather, and plastic. Engine heat at 190-220˚F dries out rubber hoses, underhood trim, and layers of baked-on dirt and grease embed themselves into aluminum engine surfaces. Not to mention the environmental variables your vehicle may be subjected to - harsh winters and salted roads, heavy rain, even too many sunny days will take their toll without the proper surface protection. Industrial fallout will embed itself into your paint and will turn into rust, often over the course of 1-3 years but is sped up with the introduction of calcium and sodium chloride (Road Salt) greatly.

Miles Driven/Year Stored Indoors for Winter: (Driven 7-8 Months/Year) Driven All Year:
100-1,000 1x - Before Storage 2x - November & March
1,000-10,000 2x - Before Storage & June 2x - November & March
10,000-25,000 3x - Before Storage, May, August 3x - November, March, July
25,000+ 4x - Before Storage, May, July, September 4x - November, March, June, September

The above chart is simply a generalization based on mileage but varies if your vehicle is used on an autocross track, drag strip, etc... Please keep in mind that not all of these suggestions are for full service details as some may imply lower detailing stages on the exterior-only to simply replenish the wax or sealant that is on your vehicle. If you are interested in starting your vehicle on a detailing regimen, please let us know and your vehicle will undergo an inspection at each detailing appointment to determine if the selected detailing package is right for you - In some cases you may need more, less, or something a little more customized to address your vehicle's specific needs. This is not intended to substitute basic car washing that needs to be performed in between details.
